Free AI music generators in 2026: what the free tier actually lets you download

Nykee27 de octubre de 20267 min read

Search for a free AI music generator and you will find dozens of products with a free tier. What almost none of the listicles tell you is that 'free tier' and 'free download' are two different promises. We read nine official pricing pages on 2026-10-27 and recorded only what each page states in its own words. Four of the nine let you download a finished file on the free plan. One of those four lets you use it commercially.

What should you know first?

  • Suno's free plan explicitly lists 'No monthly song downloads' and 'No commercial rights' — generation without delivery.
  • AIVA gives three downloads a month on the free plan, but non-commercial only, with AIVA credited.
  • Mubert's free tier is literally named Non-Commercial, with five downloads a month.
  • Soundraw has no free plan at all: its pricing page section is titled Paid Plans.
  • Soundful is the only tool in this set whose free tier both downloads (one MP3 a month) and carries a royalty-free license.

How this was measured

Every number here comes from the product's own pricing page, visited on 2026-10-27 from an en-US browser. We did not use third-party reviews, affiliate roundups, or older screenshots. Where a page does not answer a question — for example whether the free tier allows commercial use — the entry below says so instead of guessing. Two things change often enough to matter: credit-to-song ratios, and commercial terms that live in a Terms page rather than on the pricing page. Treat this as a snapshot with a date on it.

  • Source of record: the official pricing page of each product, captured the same day.
  • Nine products checked; three pricing pages were unreachable and are excluded rather than guessed at.
  • Nothing is inferred from marketing copy, comparison blogs, or affiliate reviews.
02

The one column that decides whether a free tier is useful

Almost every comparison page ranks free tiers by credits or generations. The column that actually decides whether you can use the product is the download column, and it is almost never shown. Here is what the nine pages say, in the order most people encounter them.

  • Suno — 50 credits a day, free models only. Downloads: none, the plan card says 'No monthly song downloads'. Commercial: no, 'No commercial rights'.
  • Udio — 10 credits a day plus 100 a month, no rollovers. Downloads and commercial terms are not stated on the pricing page.
  • Soundraw — no free plan. The pricing section is headed 'Paid Plans'; cheapest entry is $11.04 a month billed annually.
  • Mubert — free tier named 'Ambassador', 25 track renders and 5 downloads a month. Commercial: no, the tier is named Non-Commercial.
  • AIVA — free forever, 3 downloads a month. Commercial: no, non-commercial only, credit to AIVA required.
  • Riffusion — $0 with daily top-up credits. Download allowance and commercial terms are not stated on the pricing page.
  • ElevenLabs — 10k credits a month. Commercial License is a separate paid tier.
  • Soundful — free forever, unlimited generations, 1 MP3 download a month. Commercial: yes, royalty-free license per the FAQ.
  • Kuv Music — free forever, 30 signup credits then 10 a day. Downloads: no, WAV export starts at Starter. Commercial: no, that starts at Creator.

Suno's free tier downloads zero songs

This surprises people most, because Suno is the name everyone starts with. Its free plan card reads, in order: 50 credits per day, access to the free models, standard features only, then 'No monthly song downloads' and 'No commercial rights'. The free plan is a listening room. You can generate, you can hear the result, you can decide whether the model is good enough to pay for — but you cannot take the file. The first tier that includes downloads is Pro at $8 a month billed yearly, which adds 2,500 credits, 20 downloads a month, and commercial rights.

  • Free plan: generation yes, delivery no.
  • Commercial rights appear for the first time on the Pro tier, not the free one.
  • That is a defensible product decision, and the exact opposite of what the phrase 'free AI music generator' implies.
04

AIVA, Mubert and Soundraw: three different ways to say no

The middle of this list is where the wording matters most. AIVA is the most generous small allowance — three downloads a month at zero cost — but the same card states the free tier is for 'non-commercial use cases only, and don't mind giving credit to AIVA', and full copyright requires Pro. Mubert does not bury it: the free tier is called Ambassador and the license column reads Non-Commercial. Soundraw is the simplest case of all, because there is no free plan to compare — the page opens on Paid Plans.

  • AIVA: three files a month is enough to test whether the orchestral output fits a project, not enough to build anything with.
  • Mubert: usable for a personal video, outside the tier the moment the video carries an ad.
  • Soundraw: it appears in a lot of 'free AI music generator' lists, but it is a paid product with annual discounting.
05

Soundful is the exception

Soundful's free tier is the only one in this set that both lets you download and lets you use the result commercially. The plan gives unlimited generations, access to 25+ free styles, and one MP3 download a month. Its FAQ states that all users have a royalty-free license for every track and loop downloaded from Soundful. One MP3 a month will not carry a channel, but if you need a single licensed track for a one-off project and have no budget, this is the only free tier here that answers both questions with a yes.

  • Downloads on the free tier: one MP3 per month.
  • Commercial use: allowed, per the royalty-free license statement in the FAQ.
  • The limit is the license, not the compute — which is the whole pattern in one sentence.
06

Why the pattern looks like this

Generating audio and delivering audio are two different cost structures. Generation is GPU time, which gets cheaper every quarter and is easy to subsidise at low volume. Delivery is a file you keep forever, which drags in storage, bandwidth, and — the expensive part — a rights position the platform has to stand behind. That is why free tiers cluster around 'listen, don't keep', and why the one tool that does allow free commercial downloads caps it at a single file per month.

  • Free tiers are usually sized to let you evaluate output quality, not to produce deliverables.
  • A download is a permanent file plus a liability; a generation is just compute.
  • Read the free card as an evaluation budget, not a production budget.
07

Five fields to check before you trust any free tier

These are the five things worth reading on any pricing page before you plan a project around a free plan. They take about two minutes and they will save you from the most common surprise: finishing a track you are not allowed to keep.

  • Does the free card list a download count? If the number is missing, assume zero until you find it stated somewhere.
  • Is the word 'commercial' on the free card? If commercial rights only appear on paid tiers, the free tier does not have them.
  • Is the free tier named after a restriction? Non-Commercial, Preview, Ambassador — the naming is usually honest.
  • Does the FAQ contradict the plan card? Licensing terms often live in the FAQ or the Terms page, and they override marketing copy.
  • What file format do you get? MP3 is common on free tiers; WAV and stems are usually the paid unlock.
08

Where Kuv Music sits, using the same table

Our own free plan is in the table above and it does not flatter us. The free tier gives 30 signup credits and then 10 credits a day for one generation, and WAV export starts at Starter. Commercial-friendly publishing starts at Creator. We are not writing this to claim we are the generous one. We are writing it because the column that decides whether a free tier is useful is the download column, and almost no comparison page includes it. Ours does not pass that test either — it is a preview tier, same as most of the list.

  • Use free tiers to judge output quality, not to produce deliverables.
  • Budget for the cheapest paid tier that includes the export format you actually need.
  • Data collected 2026-10-27 from each product's official pricing page. Re-check the source before relying on a number here.
Descripción

Descripción example for hum to make music

Describe the track you need in one sentence, including where it will be used: a 30-second warm piano loop for a product page hero, no vocals, nothing that competes with a voiceover. Usage decides the license, and the license decides which plan you need.
FAQ

What questions do creators ask?

Which AI music generator has the best free plan?

On the two criteria that decide usability — can you download, and can you use it commercially — Soundful is the only one in this set that answers yes to both, at one MP3 per month. Mubert and AIVA allow more downloads but restrict commercial use.

Can I use Suno's free plan commercially?

No. Suno's free plan card lists 'No commercial rights', and commercial use rights start at the Pro tier.

Does Soundraw have a free plan?

No. Its pricing page is headed 'Paid Plans', with the cheapest tier at $11.04 a month billed annually.

Why do so many free tiers block downloads?

Because a download is a permanent file plus a rights position the platform has to stand behind, while a generation is only GPU time. Free tiers are sized to let you evaluate output quality, not to produce deliverables.

Is this data current?

It was collected on 2026-10-27 from each product's official pricing page. Credit ratios and licensing terms change, so re-check the source page before you rely on any number here.
